Our client is a global player in the payments industry. They are looking for an experienced lawyer to fill the role of Senior Legal Counsel – Privacy and Cybersecurity, who will ideally be based in Beijing/Shanghai. The successful candidate will advise the Company’s lawyers and business units on privacy and data protection issues in China as well as other APAC jurisdictions when the need arises. He/She will advise on personal data protection matters and draft and negotiate the privacy and data protection aspects of agreements including professional services, development and supplier agreements with the Company’s partners and vendors. The successful candidate will also conduct training on privacy and data protection issues, collaborate with Compliance colleagues, the Global Privacy Office and the Company’s Data Protection Officer to develop, enhance and implement the Company’s privacy compliance framework in China. He/she will also work with the government relations teams to proactively monitor and review privacy and data protection related legislation and guidance to ensure accurate and current inventories of all legal obligations and that appropriate controls are implemented.

The ideal candidate should have demonstrable privacy, data protection and program management skills and expertise, with an emphasis on financial, employee privacy and cybersecurity laws, particularly those promulgated and enforced by the People’s Bank of China, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Cyberspace Administration of China. He/She should have in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge IT, web, mobile and payment ecosystem technologies and their privacy and data security implications. He/She should have 5 to 7 years’ experience either working in-house or at a reputable law firm and be a licensed lawyer in China. He/She is required to speak fluent English and Chinese. Experience advising clients in the financial services, mobile payments, internet and technology industries is preferred.
